How Alcohol Affects Your Life

How Alcohol Affects Your Life

Drinking per se is not harmful, in fact, it may even prolong our lives. But when we drink more than two glasses of alcohol every day, its abuse could lead to numerous health problems.

Our body will feel the impact of alcohol once we take our first sip. Once we begin to abuse it and drink too much wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages may take its toll. Hence, Rehab in drug treatment centers would be necessary.

Among the bad effects of alcohol, National Recovery Rehab believes that the following are those which we have to be knowledgeable about:

  1. Brain. Too much alcohol causes the death of the brain cells. It interferes with the brain’s communication pathways and results to the essential organ’s deteriorating functioning. One will experience mood swings and difficulty in coordination with prolonged alcohol abuse.

  2. Liver. When we drink 3-4 units of alcohol every day, we will develop fatty liver and over time, it will develop into more serious liver problems like liver scarring and cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis, and fibrosis. These liver conditions do not have any symptoms and we will only feel the pain when the liver has already stopped working. So it would be best to get checked by a physician or take medical tests regularly if we are habitual drinkers.

  3. Heart. One drink for females and two drinks for males a day protects the heart from diseases. However, drinking a lot can damage the heart and it may cause heart problems such as Cardiomyopathy, stroke, high blood pressure, and arrhythmia.

  4. Pancreas. Alcohol makes the pancreas produce toxic substances which could later lead to an inflammation and swelling of the blood vessels in the pancreas. Thus, overuse of alcohol is the major cause of acute pancreatitis. Oftentimes, it is only after prolonged alcohol use or habitual drinking for 5 to 10 long years, when the initial attack comes.

  5. Immune System. Alcohol abuse weakens our immune system, making our bodies easy targets of various diseases. The alcohol would alter the molecules and the cells in the body which decreases the ability of the body to ward off diseases.

We need our body to accomplish our tasks at work. We have to be healthy to keep our responsibilities at home. Hence, we have to keep away from alcohol abuse and get Recovery Rehab when we feel we’re already overusing alcohol.
